The LNMIIT (Laxmi Narain Mittal Institute of Information Technology) was established in 2002 through a collaboration between the Government of Rajasthan and the Lakshmi & Usha Mittal (LUM) Foundation as a philanthropic initiative. The institute began its first academic session in July 2003 and was granted Deemed-to-be-University status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2006 under the De-Novo category. Despite its relatively young age, LNMIIT has rapidly emerged as one of the premier institutions in India, especially in the fields of engineering and technology.

Accredited with an ‘A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the institute's engineering programs are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), ensuring their academic quality and rigor. The 100-acre, green, residential campus is located on the outskirts of Jaipur, Rajasthan, offering a peaceful and conducive environment for academic and personal growth.

LNMIIT has already produced over 2,500 graduates from its undergraduate programs (B.Tech., B.Tech.-M.Tech. 5-year integrated degree) and nearly 130 students from postgraduate programs (M.Tech., M.S. by Research, M.Sc.). The institute also offers doctoral programs, with 14 students having earned their Ph.D. degrees. Currently, the institute has a student population of 2,025 undergraduate students, 47 postgraduate students, and 68 Ph.D. candidates, with over 16% of the total student body being female.

The institute is governed by a council chaired by its Founding Chairman, Padma Vibhushan Mr. L. N. Mittal, the President and CEO of ArcelorMittal, a leading multinational steel and mining company. Under his leadership, LNMIIT has grown into an institution committed to academic excellence, innovation, and research.
